Members

The RMA is comprised of a Chairperson and four other members. All members are appointed by the Minister on a part-time basis and at least one member must have 5 years experience in the field of epidemiology. The current membership consists of Professors Saunders (Chairperson), Cicuttini, Byrne, Doust and Kaldor.

The Ministerial appointment of the RMA Members is as follows: Professors Saunders and Cicuttini until 30 June 2021, Professor Byrne until 30 June 2022, Professor Doust until 30 September 2020 and Professor Kaldor until 1 February 2019.

Professor Nicholas Saunders AO

Chairperson

Professor Nicholas Saunders AO, MD (Sydney), Hon LLD (Monash) was appointed to the Authority in July 2012 having served as Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Newcastle, Australia for seven years. He has held academic and senior management positions at McMaster, Harvard, Flinders, Monash, Bond and Newcastle Universities.

Professor Gerard Byrne

Professor Gerard Byrne, BSc(Med) 1978 UNSW, MBBS (Hons) 1980 UNSW, PhD 1997 UQ, FRANZCP. Professor Byrne is Head of the Discipline of Psychiatry within the School of Medicine at the University of Queensland and Director of Geriatric Psychiatry at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

Professor Flavia Cicuttini

Professor Flavia Cicuttini, MBBS 1982 Monash, PhD 1993, FRACP, MSc (Lond), DLSHTM, FAFPHM. Professor Cicuttini is Head of Rheumatology, Alfred Hospital and Head of Musculoskeletal Unit, School of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, Monash University.

Professor Jenny Doust

Professor Jenny Doust BA, BEcons, BMBS, Grad Dip Clin Epi, PhD, FRACGP. Professor Doust is Professor of Clinical Epidemiology in the Centre for Research in Evidence Based Practice at Bond University and also works half-time as a general practitioner in Brisbane.

Professor John Kaldor

Professor John Kaldor, PhD 1982 UC Berkeley. Professor Kaldor is a Professor of Epidemiology and NHMRC Senior Principal Research Fellow at the Kirby Institute, University of New South Wales. Prior to this appointment Professor Kaldor worked as a researcher at the International Agency for Research on Cancer, Lyon, France.
