2005-2006 ANNUAL REPORT

14. Legislative Issues

Legislative Instruments Act 2003

The LIA established a Federal Register of Legislative Instruments as a repository of Commonwealth legislative instruments, explanatory statements and compilations, along with other initiatives, and took effect on 1 January 2005. Statements of Principles determined by the Authority are legislative instruments for the purposes of this Act.

The Authority has undertaken the necessary administrative actions that are required to enable it to meet its obligations under the LIA. The Authority has ensured the registration of all new SOPs determined from 1 January 2005. The backcapture of all SOPs determined or amended by the Authority between 1 January 2000 and 31 December 2004 was completed by the due date of 31 December 2005. A program to register all remaining SOPs required to be backcaptured by 31 December 2007 is in place, and a workplan to ensure all SOPs are reviewed within the timeframes required to comply with the sunsetting provisions included in the LIA has been established.
