1999/2000 ANNUAL REPORT
16. Distribution of Statements of Principles

When SOPs are determined the RMA Secretariat distributes them to ex-service organisations; individual ex-service persons and their representatives; Department of Veterans’ Affairs; Veterans’ Review Board; and the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.  The SOPs are also issued to the Senate Standing Committee on Regulations and Ordinances and the Tabling Officers in both Houses of Federal Parliament.  This currently represents issuing in excess of 475 hard copies, 120 disk copies and 20 electronic copies each time SOPs are determined.  Since the introduction of the RMA Website, a growing number of individuals and/or organisations are receiving their information via this medium.

Ad-hoc requests are also received from ex-service persons to assist them in preparing disability claims for submission to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.  However, given the role of the RMA as an expert medical-scientific panel to determine SOPs on the basis of “sound medical-scientific evidence”, such requests have been directed to the relevant State Office of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
