Professor Nicholas Saunders

The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs the Hon Warren Snowdon MP today announced the appointment of a new Repatriation Medical Authority Chairperson, Professor Nicholas Saunders.

Professor Saunders will take up the position on 1 July 2012, following the expiry of the current term of long-standing Chairperson Emeritus Professor Ken Donald AO.

            DECLARATIONS

◦          Parkinson's disease and parkinsonism

The RMA decided to publish a Declaration concerning a focussed investigation into "pesticides" with respect to Parkinson's disease and parkinsonism.  The Declaration will appear in the Government Notices Gazette of 1 September 2010.

N.B. - The publication of this declaration finalises the focussed investigation previously advertised and confirms no change to the existing Statement of Principles concerning Parkinson's disease and parkinsonism, Instrument No. 66 of 2007, determined pursuant to subsection 196B(3) of the VEA. An amendment has been made to Instrument No. 65 of 2007 (Amendment SoP 83 of 2010).

◦          Sarcoidosis

The RMA decided to publish a Declaration concerning a focussed investigation into "dioxins" with respect to sarcoidosis.  The Declaration will appear in the Government Notices Gazette of 1 September 2010.

N.B. - The publication of this Declaration finalises the focussed investigation previously advertised and confirms no change to the existing Statements of Principles concerning sarcoidosis, Instrument Nos. 115 and 116 of 2007.
